PROGRAMMING

Juvenile Courts G.O.A.L. Program

The G.O.A.L. Program (Greater Opportunities for Additional Learning) is an existing program that was implemented by the Juvenile Courts several years ago.  However, the Ben F. Jones Chapter's significant involvement is a new development, indeed!  The Chapter is extremely proud to partner with the Juvenile Court's G.O.A.L. program by providing volunteers to facilitate classes within the detention center on weekday mornings.  While class format may range from lecture, to question and answer, to mock trial, to open discussion, we are particularly excited to help the Court institute a debate program for its children.  As an association of African American lawyers, The Ben F. Jones Chapter looks forward to offering these children the chance to realize the immeasurable power of words, rationale, and persuasion - undeniable tools that we hope they will continue to utilize rather than resorting to more destructive means of problem solving in the future.

UPDATE

The first debate class took place on April 1st, and it was a huge success!

We need volunteers!  The commitment is very flexible, and you can volunteer as often or as infrequently as your schedule permits.  If you are unsure as to whether this is something you would like to do, please join us to simply watch a class, without participating.  You may also volunteer to assist a lead facilitator rather than taking on a full class on your own.  For more information, please contact the Community Service Committee.  Thank you in advance for your service!
